System Requirements:

Joe Rock and Friends is designed to run successfully on older computer systems. Installing to the hard drive and choosing the 'low resolution' option will improve performance.

Why did you choose a paperweight for your main character? It's just a rock?

We're not making this question up. People ask! When we were planning the series, we were looking around for ideas and Scott (the graphic artist who does all the amazing graphics that you see in our books) said "How about a rock. Vegetables are already taken?" I think he was referring to the "Veggie Tales" characters. The more we thought about it, the more we liked it. Rocks can go into almost any situation and they've been lots of places. So we went out and found Joe and he was more than happy to share his stories. We think some of them might be a bit far fetched. But as Joe says," Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Stan the Stick (we have the original Stan) was found on a Pacific Coast beach and was sent to the Atlantic for three years with one of our daughters. He has a charming Nova Scotia tartan outfit from his time there.

How can I learn to use all of the features of the CD?

We've prepared a video Product Tour. which walks you through each of the features of our product. It's a great overview of all the features. You can also click the help button on any of our CDs for the same information. We're also working on a quick reference sheet which will be done before the end of October. There is also a 3 page Quickstart guide, in PDF format.

Some of the music files, especially the Hopping Boys doesn't play. The sound cuts in and out and the video is not smooth. What's wrong?

If your computer meets the minimum requirements, (See the requirements above.) there are two things to try.

   1) The Joe Rock CD's have two modes. "Hi-Res" and "Low Res." The default is "Hi-Res." If your computer has difficulty at this level, go to the Options page and at the bottom you'll see a check box for low resolution.

   2) Install the Joe Rock CD to your computer. (See the next question for how to do that.)

How do I install the Joe Rock CD onto my computer?

WINDOWS: Put the CD in your disk drive. The Joe Rock program will probably start automatically. If it does, just close it. Then open My Computer and find the CD. You should see the Joe Rock icon. Use your right mouse button and click on the CD. A menu pops up and one of the options should be Open. Select that option and you should see the contents of the CD. One of the items is called InstallCD. Double click this item to start the install and follow the instructions. Remember that the home use license allows for installation in one house and the educational use is for one computer only unless more licenses are purchased.

MACINTOSH: Open the folder called InstallFiles, then open the Program Files folder and then open the BoggleNoggin folder and THEN open the CD folder.  Inside are folders called images and languages along with a program file called JoeRockCD1/2/3.  Copy the two folders and the program file to a location on your hard drive.

Networks: The Joe Rock software works very well on networks and you can either run the windows install on the server and create shortcuts to the exe OR copy the files as outlines in the MACINTOSH install and then create a shortcut to the exe file.

How does the License Key work?

If you have a Joe Rock DEMO disk OR if you download one of the DEMONSTRATION DOWNLOAD CD's from the website and install it on your computer, the program runs in demo mode. If you buy a license Key from the website, you can license the program for the computer it is installed on.  Educational institutions can purchase a number of licences and then use the same activation code for a number of computers.

Macintosh Version of CD 1 and 2:

CD 1 and 2 were originally produced without the Mac software. If you have purchased CD1 or 2 for your mac and require the Macintosh version, please contact sales@bogglenoggin.com and we will be able to help you out.
